O conceito de regeneração urbana é indissociável das mutações ocorridas nos espaços portuários, concretizando, a atividade portuária passou por profundas transformações no último século devido às exigências da globalização, à evolução do transporte marítimo e à maior complexidade das cadeias logísticas globais. Consequentemente, ocorreram mudanças significativas nos portos com impactes importantes na relação porto-cidade. A modernização das infraestruturas portuárias e o processo de desindustrialização, após o fim da II Guerra Mundial, levou ao declínio da indústria de base, à desativação/adaptação de instalações e à deslocalização de infraestruturas portuárias para áreas periféricas das cidades. Vão assim surgir, nas frentes de água das cidades portuárias, áreas abandonadas e degradadas. As operações de regeneração urbana surgem como a solução encontrada para a revitalização sustentável das áreas desprezadas e devolutas com o objetivo de mudar a imagem da cidade. A relação entre o porto e a cidade de Lisboa é notoriamente complexa passando por inúmeras fases: se inicialmente o porto exercia um papel fulcral na organização da cidade e suas funções, recentemente esta relação quebrou-se verificando-se um crescimento autónomo da cidade em relação ao porto e suas atividades. A zona ribeirinha oriental da cidade de Lisboa foi a que mais sofreu com esta “separação”. É nesta zona que se podem encontrar áreas portuárias e espaços urbanos abandonados e obsoletos que perderam importância face às recentes exigências de organização portuária. Neste contexto, a dissertação analisa as vantagens inerentes ao processo de regeneração urbana na área ribeirinha oriental de Lisboa de modo a garantir a sua sustentabilidade urbana.

Topic of this investigation is the role Co-operative Banks could play in the aspiring East
African Community (EAC). The assumed exclusion of deprived parts of the East African
societies from institutionalized financial services is interesting as financial exclusion is one
important dimension of poverty-related exclusion. It is one big obstacle to development
which is not only omnipresent in nowadays developing economies in general and deprived
territories in particular but has always been a hot topic of the precariat and its attempts for
deliverance. Financial exclusion goes along with economic paralysis of entire parts of the
society which can be the cause of a lack of economic dynamics for the economy as a
whole. It needs to be faced by anyone concerned with the structural poverty in territories.
For a few years now the World Bank focussed on this matter, finding clear words in a
report about the problem:
“Extending  the  breadth  of  financial  service  availability  in  a  given  population  causes
economic growth and can improve income distribution” 1 .
A very early example of vanishing this problem has been created by the poor themselves:

This article addresses the problem of the multiscale importance of road networks, with the aim of helping to establish a more resilient network in the event of a road disruption scenario. A new model for identifying the most important roads is described and applied on a local and regional scale. The work presented here represents a step forward, since it focuses on the interaction between identifying the most important roads in a network that connect people and health services, the specificity of the natural hazards that threaten the normal functioning of the network, and an assessment of the consequences of three real-world interruptions from a multiscale perspective. The case studies concern three different past events: road interruptions due to a flood, a forest fire, and a mass movement. On the basis of the results obtained, it is possible to establish the roads for which risk management should be a priority. The multiscale perspective shows that in a road interruption the regional system may have the capacity to reorganize itself, although the interruption may have consequences for local dynamics. Coordination between local and regional scales is therefore important. The model proposed here allows for the scaling of emergency response facilities and human and physical resources. It represents an innovative approach to defining priorities, not only in the prevention phase but also in terms of the response to natural disasters, such as awareness of the consequences of road disruption for the rescue services sent out to local communities.
